you dont waste memory... you waste memory by running 200 programs.

it is effective, however, if you put your OS on one hdd, and your games on another. it will not save your memory, however..

by memory, i think he was refering to MEMORY SPACE on the hard drives. but twisted, refer to that as space or w/e, memory means space in your RAM.

you make a lot of computers and you refer to the 4-Pin Male/Female cords and/or the IDE cord as the 'open spot'. k...

but yes, a second hard drive is hard to live without... least for me. i'd rather 1x 40 GB and lets say 1x 200 GB more then 1x 300 GB.

There are lots of reliable HD brands. Check out newegg.com. As far as setting it up you should go for a RAID configuration. Someone with higher intellegence should explain that.

I wouldnt try a RAID config unless you really know what your doing, and your mobo has that capability.

I like my Maxtor 300 GB, works good for my extra hard drive. bought it awhile ago at like $130, mighta dropped price by now. but there are many to choose from, just matters what size you want and how much you have to pay.

can't you just partition your drive and disable your swap space/ pagefiling for more or less the same effect?

How much space do you want tho on that on HD?...

I dont reccommend Maxor, they are loud from my experiance. very. Try WD...maybe Seagate

How I did it, programs like Zone Alarm or avast, windows files, drivers, and cleaning software I trust go on one HD. Games, Graphics, music, programs, etc go on the other, works good

um yeah, hard drives dont just not work and prompt a messege 'Virus. No workee for you!' k?

i like my 300 GB maxtor, its just fine for me. i dont notice the sound. I got a few Seagates, they are fine. They all idle around the same temps.

    Seagates and WD's are good.

    I had a few run-ins with Maxtor...

I used Hitatchi like once, not sure on them these days.....

Hitachi deskstar drives are pretty good, their performance is compareable to the raptors. If you want all out diskspeed though go for the WD1500 raptor, low capacity, but excellent speed.
