You can flip your lens around and it becomes an odd sort of macro lens. It's hard to use though, and sometimes you get a black rim around the image because you don't have the lens snug with the camera body...

I'll see what I can do :). How extreme do these have to be?

    just close-ups :)

The ladybug is good, if you get it greatly enlarged, seeing as it's a small animal on it's own.
Other examples might be if you take a picture of something big, but zoomed in on one specific part (large animal - close-up of the eye for example)

gotcha gotcha, I can do that.

Ah, one more question. Being a digital photographer (in learning, actually), I've established a sort of workflow. Most of it I know is within the rules, but there's one question that is iffy for me: can we turn them to black and white? Say the subject is light or texture and the best way to convey such is to change it to black and white. You then have to mess with channels and a lot of contrast to make the effect look right, otherwise it's waaay too much midtones. I never shoot b&w in case I change my mind, and photoshop does a better job anyway. Is this beyond the rules?

Black and white isn't against the rules. It says you can manipulate it slightly, add a little contrast, etc. Black and white does not distort your image in any way, so I would assume that it's ok.
