    Have you tried going over it with a dark brush? Gradient map... oh nevermind you use gimp don't you? lol.. can't help you with gimp unfortunately.

    Its an outer glow hun :) Go to 'layer, layer style' and you should see 'outer glow'...thats where it is on my photoshop anyway :) Or just go to...
