If you have more than 500 fonts in your fonts directory it drasically slows your pc down unless your pc is of high quality

Take away all the fonts you dont use regularaly, more than 500 will slow your pc. if you need to load another font outside of the fonts folder...

I prefer to use non-rendered images anyway because then you can keep some of the background and blend that in too.
