You need a darker purple for this gradient map to work. The contrast just needs to be greater so we can have a greater range of shade. ^_^

On the BW, the left does look too dark. Hmm. And the BW could be awesome if the glowing eye was whiter. ^_^ Color for the win for now though.
Hmmm. Maybe make them both colored red/glowing red if you can for symmetry sake? It looks a bit unusual now. haha.
