I've come across this problem too, before trying to move the render go to Image ---> Mode and make sure there is a check mark beside "RGB color".
You can do that in 3D Studio Max but it's a very complicated program and takes a long time to learn how to use it.

First one 7/10 Blending needs work. Second one's a little better 8/10 but the BG's kinda plain.
