it is true, DUAL CHANNEL RAM, which is composed of two sticks works twice as fast as single channel which is one stick. it effectively uses both sticks of ram at once insteed of just one and then going to the next afte the first is full.

Also, you will likely want to get an AMD socket 939 procesor, the Dual core athlons are the best PC processors on the market so you want to keep your options open for future upgrades. Most people either get Athlon 64 3500+ or Athlon 3000+(with a plan to upgrade to a dual core proc in the future)

Also, if you're ging to get an S-ATA hardrive you might as well get another and go RAID0, RAID0 works similarly to Dual channel ram, it uses both at once. just get smaller HDs to make up for the price.

    Allright..Two 80 GB's be ok?

Also, can I use my current HD if its S-ATA so I only have to buy one? btw..how can I find out if its S-ATA?

umm look at the cors on it, if it is S-ATA, then the cord will be diferent than if it were off of an IDE ribbon. It's nto a huge deal if you can't get RAID, it's not the most vital thing there is. If you can't set it up, a second hardrive is always good though, you can put al your games/heavy duty applications on it and keep them seperate from the HD with windows on it and you can also set pagefiling to it.

If you're getting two 80gb drives then get the 10k rpm ones.

Otherwise just get one 200+gb with the 16mb cache

I'm just saying wait a year, prices will drop like a rock for everything, it's the nature of PCs. There should be a new socket coming out for the dual core procs(A64 x2s) soon and it would be good to have the latest for upgradeability. as for getting new now, as I said on AIM, hold off if you can, OC your celeron as much as feasable, and maybe another strip of ram just for a bit of a performance kick here and now, i know that 256mb of DRR ram should be down to 20$ or so.

EDIT: as for HDs if you get two SATA hardrives and your motherboard can RAID them, they will perform at an effective 14400 speed. if you can't then pretty much any 10k hardrive will work good. even if you can't RAID0 them, two cheap small HDs work good, setting the page filing to the second HD along woth a few programs will definately help. RAID 0 with 7200 RPM hardrives works best though, unloess you are rich enough for 2 10000s in RAID0, but 100$ for a single 36gig 10000rpm hardrive doesn't seem worth it IMO

Try looking for another video card for an extra $10 or $20 you might find one that would be better for a few extra dollars. By the way where do you live? Sometimes there's computer fairs or shows you can go to, to get a good deal. Also try going to http://www.mikeshardware.com for tips & additional help. Mikeshardware.com is a very reputable website with tips on how to make & take care of your PC.

Yeh you should get a new pc if your on a celeron.

The specs I mentioned will give you a good pc at your price. Dont go with a 6200 as a 6600GT will be well within your budget.

    I would suggest -

    AMD 3500+
    6600GT
    MSI Neo4-Platinum

I can give you a full specs list of what you should get if you tell me everything you need. eg. case, psu, sound card, etc.

I dont think thats gona help-lol Even im making a PC :D

well all im saying its ur money (or ur parents) do whatever you like with it - If u wana mke a PC then go for it :D Thats why u wanted advice on the parts - I kno the 6600GT which im gona get performs better than the 6200 but its a chunk out of the funds :D

All you need a is upgradeable motherboard which is good and has room for expansion - Then say in like a years time you can upgrade it again because you rmotherboard can take the parts to the next level -

Just get a GOOD motherboard and processor and memory and then work on it maybe in like a years time when the graphics card, HD, memory gets cheaper - Day by day they are getting cheaper but there comes a chance of them being phased out because ur motherboards old - If ur going for AMD 3500 go for the SKT939 motherboards :D

HD Atleast 100GB+ OR maybe 2x 80GB (7200RPM decent as well but 10,000RPM slightly on the expensive side) , GFX card up to you but 128mb decent so far , memory atleast 512MB DDR-RAM , Case - get a side window one with a side fan or maybe more , Get a PSU with like 460-500W with a fan

Well thats the basics i hope its alright :D GD LUK

for the moment you would likely want something like this:

    AMD Athlon x2 3800+ 350$
    MSI K8 neo plat 120$
    1gig dual channel DDR400 ram 90$
    Geforce 6600 90$
    PSU/case 70$
    2*40gig HDs 40$ each:80

    800

that would get you a good functional unit, excluding the OS, you could get a Win XP pro OEM for about 100 though, or better yet, get XP pro 64 for the same. you can reuse the OS from your current comp if you have to, same thign for the HD, but you would need to reinstal windows.

As was said, waiting will be best a 2ghz celeron can hold it's own in a lot of things, and ti should be fine for another year especially if you have 512 MB of ram or more.
