MSI the features practically the same specs as the ASUS. However it sports a better fan, the ASUS one will most probably need to be replaced straght after purchase. The MSI has more overclock ablity. If you need more convincing in order for you to get the msi I suggest checking out http://forums.amd.com

Idiots, 520 wattz ocz powerstream is one of the best psu you can ever get, at least its more future proof. what if he suddenly gets a 7800 gtx then he wouldnt have to worry about powersupply. but that piece of powersupply is crap. Dont buy it, cheap isnt always good. I know hell alot more about computers. MSI is no way near a DFI lanparty series. Of course its expensive then other mobos out in market. Its hell of worth it.

NOTE: a good msi board is a msi k8n platinum sli. althouogh its just as same price as asus.

^Generation I know pcs. A Tagan is just as good if not better than a OXZ. Go on AMD forums and everyone will recommend to a you a Epower Tagan.

You've got some pretty solid choices going into your rig. A few suggestions though.

    1) Your proc might be a bit lacking in the power department. I suggest that if you are looking for a budget CPU, then go with an AMD64 3500+ Socket939 90nm processor. Otherwise known as Venice core. You can find it here. I have one, and it runs BF2, Doom3, and HL2 without a hitch with settings on high.

    2) Your RAM is a solid choice, but for a few bucks more you can get some really kick ass gaming RAM with tighter CAS timings. Check out what OCZ has to offer, especially their OCZ EL Platinum Revision 2 2x512 with 2-2-2-5 CAS settings. You can see it here.

    3) I never really ran an OCZ PSU in a system before so I cannot comment on their product, but I have and always will stand with Antec. For your purposes the Antec TruePower 480 will do good. I would trust that over an OCZ PSU any day. If 480 watts isn't enough, step up to maybe a PC Power and Cooling PSU which knocks the socks off any Targan, Antec or OCZ PSU out there today. Maybe this one will do you good. You can never underestimate or underappreciate the value of a good, quality PSU. Some say, including myself, that THE most important part of any computer is the PSU.

Other than that, your rig is looking good. Solid choices on your mobo, case and videocard. But one question remains: what are you doing for storage? Any ideas on what kind of hard drive you plan to go with? If you have not, Western Digital will treat you right every time. =)

2 gigs of RAM is not going to net him any extra performance in his computer. Unless he plans to do nothing but graphics work then I don't reccoment investing another $170.00 into another gig of RAM that is essentially going to be a waste when he games.

Extra RAM is a godsend when using CAD, Photoshop, Macromedia programs and the like that suck up system resources like there is no tomorrow.

Extra processor power is a godesend when playing games, or using a computer to specifically game on. I would much rather invest money on a better videocard or CPU than waste it on another gig of RAM that will have little to no effect on the game itself when running a gig of RAM to begin with.

I personally like MSI, a person I know has an MSI board and it works really good, especially sinc it has a push-button to reset bios, that is nice, i hate jumpers. it also runs somewhat cool. One problem he had was when he tried to over clock his ram. He could not OC it past 480mhz through BIOS, though he could push it tpo 520 through Ntune and it still was stable enough to play far cry(he only had one 128mb 6800) without any problems. When he swapped for the dual core version of the BIOS, he was able to push the clock to 530 through BIOS, but the ram acted as if it were single channel. I think those issues are all BIOS related though and should be fixable with a new update. The one thing I have heard though is that when you fill the 3rd and the fourth DIMM slots, your ram acts as if it is single channel. He said it would be fixed in a later bios release but...

I don't know this is just what I heard. I personally wouldn't mind an MSI board like his even if the BIOS is semi-sketchy, MSI's BIOS is so much nicer than my cruddy ECS award BIOS. Still doesn't stop me from getting a 22 second load up time on a 3000+ with single channel DDR400 ram, heh I tweeked windows and have two HDs(not in raid though, diferent sizes.)

I see people suggesting like 2GB RAM you kno how much that cost - Its quite a bit I know - You kind of didnt see his budget :D

Refer to the budget dont suggest cores like 3700+ they way expensive for the amount of money he got - Well if he got enough money then he probably get it :D
