    try 800 x 600 to start off with

    800x600 was most common because it caters for all people on the web, however more and more sites are using 1024x768 these days.

    However you can also make you own size if you really think 800x600 is too big.

    dude, using 1024x768 is a mistake, and i have never seen a site do that.

    the browser scroll bar takes up about 20 pixels so u will have horizontal scrolling (which is bad)

    800x600 is best.

    when u get gd enuff, then using fluid templates is the next best thing.

    (fluid templates resize depending on monitor resolution)

    I think it depends on what you designing it for. If youre making a site that deals with art. Most people could take the size of something larger than 800x600. but, if you making it so the target audiance is old people. They could probably only hand 800x600.

    you know,you could simply right click your desktop and check your default desktop size...lol,for next time ;)

    56% of web users are using that res, so using that site size won't be a problem for the vast majority of web users.
