eBay bought Skype(VoIP software company) for 2.6 billion with a 1.5 billion option. Though it's unclear what plans eBay has, one thing is clear; they are going to be big. I just wish I had shares in Skype, I'd be rich.
I mentioned what Skype was in the first post... basically its and IM(Instant Messenger) with the option of VoIP(Voice over internet protocol) and what makes Skype unique is that it can make calls to landlines with one of it's paid features called SkypeIN. I think one of the reasons why eBay bought Skype is that Skype is projected to make 60 million, this year alone. Surely a VoIP would have some benefit combined with what eBay currently does and that is online auctions.
I never knew skype was that big when I used to have it, but I have been hearing a lot about it lately.
I don't really understand why eBay would even need it, let alone spend 2.6 billion on it. What would it be used for, what purpose would it serve.
If they started charging and I was a skype user, I would just switch to one of the several other free options for VoIP, and I am sure that is what a lot of other people would do as well. The only way I would pay for it is if they get SkypeIN and SkypeOUT fully functional and if it was cheap. Otherwise I'll just stick a landline/celli
Hm... weird of them to do. Will be interesting to see what comes of it. I love it personally. Thanks Girly for sharing the link. Oh yeah, and doesn't this belong in computing. <_<
You know that techniqully this does belong in computing, but what kind of exposer would this get there
2.6 billion? Dude, that's a huge amount of money. What's ebay up to? I only used Skype for voice chat a while back. But when the new YIM7 came out with its improved voice features I kinda abandoned Skype. Looks like it had grown much ever since.
