My friend is a big fan of a show called "The dukes of Hazzard". He collects photos and merchandise and because the show was made in the 1980's, the photos he has are not up to todays standard. He gives me photos that he is not happy with and asks me to fix them. I have fixed over 50 photos for him and there could be many problems with these photos. Some of the problems i've seen are below - Someone signing their autograph on the picture, or a website covering the picture with the words "SAMPLE" (or something similar) - Colours are all wrong e.g too bright, too dull, wrong contrast etc - Pictures are too small or too big - Photos have scratches, junk pixels, dust and other things ruining the picture - Background behind the character is not nice (so I need to change the background) There are many other problems I have encountered with the photos he sent me but I usually do a pretty good job of fixing them. What happens is, he gives me the photos, I scan them with my scanner, I place them into photoshop CS2 and touch them up in there, then I print them with my Canon Pixma iP4000 photo printer onto high quality Epson photographic glossy paper. I was thinking of putting an advert in shop windows and local magazines asking if people want their photos fixing up and then printed. Maybe they have a few old family photos that look old and are ruined, maybe I could try and improve them. I have a good scanner, an excellent photo printer and very high quality photo paper (both 6x4 and A4) I have Adobe Photoshop CS2 and over 3 years experience with this software. What do you think of this idea ? Do you think people would want this done for a small charge? Do you think I am good enough to earn a little bit of money doing this every now and then? Sure, theres lots of places like that. All you have to do is ask stores if you can put up flyers and stuff. If you are still in high school, theres a better chance school owners will let you put up flyers.
This is one of the jobs my Interactive Multimeda teacher tryed to get us last year in my vocational school. You could work for school pictures, and get pretty good money from it. A few of my classmates last year got jobs at Ohio School Pictures fixing student's pictures all day in PS. I myself would get bored.
So how would I go about doing this? Put an advert in and say what? How much should I charge per picture? How would people contact me? (would email be possible?)
Well, if it's local, a simple Phone number and Email address would be fine, same on a national scale. Also, you should try advertising at places where you know that people post images a lot, like maybe a personals website or a stock photo website... also, good luck to ya man ^_^

I still have no idea how much to charge people per picture, what do you think? (im in UK) Could someone write a little ad for me? I really have no idea I really dont fancy making a website, I dont want to start a business doing this, I just want to earn the odd bit of money outside of college. It depends whats wrong with them, i learn new things for every few pictures I do. My friend gives me a new picture and I discover a problem that I cant fix, so I have to learn new things. I use all kinds of tools, I mostly use the healing brush but I do alot of colour editing using colour balance, replace and selective colour, hue/saturation, shadow and hightlight, curves, levels etc Probably the hardest thing to do is get the pictures to a high enough quality for print. You can spend ages making a picture look great to then find its not so great on paper. You discover junk pixels in the black, jaggered edges and all kinds of problems.
I dont know how I would go about doing this, obviously i post adverts where i can but what would they say? how much do I charge?... this is the hardest thing for me.
You should choose the price based on how many hours it would take fixing something; and figure in the costs for paper, etc into the price. If you get a good enough reputation doing so, referrals will fly in, and you'll be paying for college by the time your out of high school I'd help you; but i'm not a expert on pounds/cost of stuff over there, my thoughts & ideas come with a U.S.D.
Yeah, I have a friend who currently does lots of photography work, Senior Pictures and whatnot. She gives me a $250 stipend per group of pictures I fix due to enviromental issues in the picture, though her camera is amazing, and if there's an error, it has to do with the outer area, her lens is amazing. I highly recommend you come into contact with reputable area photographists. Even though it seems kind of redundant that their pictures are new, and you won't need to edit them, apparently they receive lots of retouch requests, and often turn down people when all their firm works with is Photography, not Digital Editing. School will be an infinite resource, but it won't be very money heavy. If you want to get real money from the deal, you'll need to look for the Privately Owned businesses. Items such as the American Equivalent to Walgreens (a store that specializes in nothing, but is quite small, modern, and has digital picture editing/printing, and pharmacutical options), will be a hindrance, however, and you should never ask these people to help you post your ads. An AD would most likely consist of your specialty, specific ability, and description. Also, I thought it was a bad idea to remove the signature from that img.
