Well, my subsciption to Norton is going to expire in about a week, and I have been trying to do a little research on a reliable replacement. So far, Zone Labs Antivirus. ($29.95) looks to be the best deal. I am pretty sure it is a reliable company. I was wondering if anyone here is using this version. If so, would you consider it to be a reliable piece of software for internet protection? It has both a firewall and antivirus protection, which is what I'm looking for. This is the product link... http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/cata...staticcomp_zaav Should I go with this? Or spend the extra $10 to renew Norton. It has been reliable for the past two years. But, I gotta try to save a little bit of money... considering the expenses being in college. <_< If anyone knows a better solution, plz post it. If you don't know what you're talking about, plz keep it to yourself. Thanks. And I'm not too sure if I trust the completely free stuff like avg, avast... yada yada. Anyhow, let's hear what ya gotta say.
I know you're skeptical about free stuff, but Avast does have a pro edition as well as their free one. just check out www.avast.com For firewall, again, Sygate, it has both free and paid editions. It is the strongest and easiest thing I have seen in awhile. go to http://smb.sygate.com/products/spf_standard.htm for the free onbe, and www.sygate.com for paid ooh, forgot about nod32, thats a good one as well for AV.
Thanks for the replies, but I'm looking for something that covers both a firewall and antivirus in the same program for a reasonable amount of money. Norton does this, and has worked well in combination with trendmicro online scans, and the occasional panda scan as well. It only costs like $40 a yr, but Zone Alarm supposively does the same thing, if not better because they are not as high of a priority target for hackers from what I hear. And for $10 less. It would be nice to hear from someone using it, as to whether or not they think it is good. Thanks again.
When i first got my pc, i went with z/a. It was okay, but i changed after. Not really a reason, I just wanted something new. I now use norton so i cant really help you, since it my have changed since i had it.
Norton's products take up quite a lot of system resources while others like ZA didn't . For antivirus , may a recommend Karpersky ? Although its more expensive , its the best AV software can be found nowadays .
You should have a look at Mcafee security suite, you get a firewall, anti-virus, spam and adware stuff, you name it. Check out the site www.mcafee.co.uk. Btw dont spell it with 2 f's, im not sure the result you get is savoury
Trendmicro is an anti-virus suite with firewall, spyware, and AV. It is $49.95 though. Just to let you know avast is very good i hav it. But trend micro is awesome of AV. I'm ptretty sure it's lifetime too. Notron sucks, it can be turned off by viruses.
The version I linked to is both, it's suppose to have some new triple-protection firewall too. Not too sure if it will make the internet speed any slower or not though.
As far as i know, zonealarm is simply a firewall, albeit a very god one considering its free. zonelabs do make an AV i think, and a spyware detector, but you have to buy them, like zonealarm pro
Norton is a resource hog and it is not very effective, so discard that choice. Now, you can go with any of the things that these guys have mentioned. If you don't have a problem paying money then I would go with TrendMicro, Zonealarm Pro is a little cheaper but I am sure it is just as effective, if not more. There are also very good and powerful alternatives to paid av, and those are: Avast for virus-protection, Sygate for a firewall, Spybot, Ad-Aware and Microsoft Beta for malicious programs. So, paid or not paid it's safe either way you choose to go.
