Alright, I want to buy a gaming PC, but I want to pay less than $500. Yea, I know, I need at least $1,500 to get a good one, but I'm not made of money... I'll only become rich if everybody on here gives me 1 dollar... then I'll be rich... Anyway..

This is my computer I want:

    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...1462312&CatId=0

I know that buying the parts seperate will save me money, but when I total it all up, it's a little more than that.

If you can find parts that meet or beat the quality and price, that will be most helpful.

I need at least the following:

AMD Athalon 64 2800 or above
    512 RAM or above
    128 Video RAM or above
80gb SATA Hard Drive or above
    A good, hard motherboard.
I have a good soundcard already.

I was also thinking of getting a small-factor pc also. I don't want one by Shuttle, tho. I had bad experiences with them. I basically want the same as above if you can find me one for $500 or below.

You never know.... I might give you credits or =Rep if you help me! ;)

    ^thats $1200.

The problem with that pc you said is it is only a 754pin. It would be better to get a pc with a A64 3000+ 939 pin as it has an updated memory controller that will play better.

I dont play HL2, so that wouldn't help..

I already have an OS for that, was thinking of going linux, then using Wine or just dbl booting with XP or Vista, if it ever comes out.

Thanks for all ^your^ help. any more suggestions?

if you already have an OS then you could probably afford a somewhat better GFX card or one gig ram. Also, WIn 64 is based of of win server 2003 just like vista so you wouldn't loose too much.

just look for one on sale at a local electronics store.

For a graphics card I suggest just getting a refurb x600 XT or a x700 Pro Refurb for like $80 off newegg as they will play doom 3 1024x768 on medium settings.

    Get your stuff from newegg.

    A64 3000+ 939 - $146
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819103537

    MSI K8N Neo4-F - $85
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813130491

Corsair Value Select Dual Channel kit 2x 512MB - $89.75
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820145440

    Refurb ABIT RX600 XT-PCIE Radeon X600XT 128MB DDR PCI Express x16 Video Card - $65
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...82E16814123140R

Refurbished gfx cards are fine to use, they are OEM though.

Atleast buy a 939 pin processor and mobo :D

Well no idea about the prices really coz i live in UK but $500 is around £273 and for me u need like £500 to get a decent machine in your case £1000 but there are ways

You might as well go for that PC or check other sites for parts like egg.com is popular in US for comp parts.

ABout the spec - not sure about the processor its quite low down.
