This is a first for me. Try going to Control Panel>Folder Options. Under the view tab, click on "Restore Defaults" maybe something got checked by mistake.

For your router problem, I would unplug your computer from the router and test your broadband connection just plugged into the computer. If it doesnt happen you may have to purchase a new one or even re-configure your router.

    ^do the above first.

Also, the reason why your computer is saying the cable was disconnected is because your router went down, restarted. In IE options, it says there is no connection because you are on a LAN (Local Area Network), not on a dial-up modem so the connection goes through the my networks folder.

I would suggest resetting your router, there should be a button on there that resets it to factory default.

If that doesnt help, you may have to reconfigure it, or ask the ISP for a new one.

if all that stuff didnt work check if ur cable has no cracks or tears in it that could interfere with the connection

U probaly have a problem with uPNP, Universal plug and play. if u dont know how to disable it then contact ur system manufacture, if ur lucky there a setting for it in the router config that u can turn off. either just log in and start checkin setting or consult thier techsupport or ur manual for the router.
