Just wanted to ask the techie's of this board, is there any really really good antivirus / adware / spyware removers out there?

Preferably free, or some that you would have to buy, cause i got quite a few cash to spare (ok a few hundreds :) ) and i really want to fix up my cpu, get some new antivirus... since my old one (avast) died on me, and keeps asking for the CD Key, and keeps rejecting it for some reason.

Thanks for all the recommendations you guys can give :) will be really helpful! Oh and by the way, is there a software to make sure that all my softwares are up to date? Or a website? Or something? Cause i really hate logging off Guild Wars or stopping some of my anime downloads (NON LICENSED) just so i can update parts of my cpu...

Thanks for all your help ^_^

    Limewire is illegal

    You spelt the wrong URL

Mcafee is the newest and greatest spyware and virus protection product ever. Or is it a company...

I would not reccomend using limewire, it will ---- up your comuter even more and however posted that is a dumass. I wouldn't reccomend Norton becuase it can be turned off by viruses. I reccomend Trend Micro. I am not sure about McAffree. As for spyware and AdWare use Microsoft's Anti-Spyware (that is free) and for AdWare use Spyware Doctor.

what i use, and has worked for me for about 2 years now. Great firewall called sygate (go to download.com and search it) and avg antivirus (google it). Both are free, or have a free version. My pc's been virus/spyware free for a long time. Def sugest it, poons norton, mcaffe, anything..

(BTW, limewire aint that bad, if you have a good virus protection :D)

The reason you have been virus "free" is because AVG has a small definition base, it doesn't detect as much as say a more powerful virus protection would.

i think avast is the best free anti virus

    Avast.com
for spyware i would say Microsoft Antispyware
    http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/s...re/default.mspx
    its free
and i would really suggest ewido
    ewido.com
it says its a 14 day free trial but its a lie its 100% free you just dont get the guard its really good it got all my viruses away

i would say ewido is 10/10
    microsoft antispyware 9/10
    avast 8/10

    her is da run down

if you have some money to spend you should buy the trend micro pack...you can get it at best-buy for like 20-30 bucks... that comes with virus/spyware/adware etc...

you can also get a good system of comp cleaner for free as well

for spyware removal get - spybot search and destroy(free) adaware (free) microsoft beta(free)... i suggest you get all three... why?... because each program searches and detects a different type of malicious program...i have all three and run them every night... having all three is not excessive, they will each find what the other doesn't....believe me i run them once a day and every night they find something

for virus removal get - avast home edition (free) or avg (free) i have never heard of ewido, but i am going to try it out...atm i personally use avast

for firewall use - xp firewall or get zonelabs

for a registry cleaner, i use ezclean and ccleaner both are free
