It is highly possible for someone 13, and even younger to obtain a black belt. It just depends on the amount of time and dedication that goes into the training.

Agreed keep on topic and calm the flaming down

On topic ,at 14 i did Judo at an after school club for 2 yrs which was fantastic , thouroughly enjoyed myself , especially when i performed a throw on my friend and he landed all wrong on the mat , i was shocked but the teacher took me aside and said well done so i was pleased , cant remember the names of the stuff we did but kesagatami ( probably spelt well wrong ) rings a bell aha did a search kesa gatame , hmm not bad nearly had it

At 16 i tried karate after seeing Karate Kid lol , but i dont know what happened but i really didnt like it as much as judo so i think i gave up after 6 months

For the next few yrs i did some body building and that , got fairly big i guess and taught myself some techniques in defense , you know the scenario , you practice a few moves thinking that if anyone ever tried that you could do this and that and you`d win lol

Well i was shocked aswell that day a bloke obviously didnt like me and as he ran to knock whatever out of me , i actually performed a self taught move and when i opened my eyes lol he was on the floor , hmmm lol

By 20 i didnt like what i became , looking for fights and putting people in hospital , nothing worse than breaking your hand on someones skull and going to the hospital and seeing the person youve just beaten up on a bed unconsious

So at the age of 21 i went to an aikido show and fell in love with the martial art and did that for 3 yrs , got my first 2 belts but as with everything , kids were born and sadly my interest turned to them .

I remember one aikido lesson , where the teacher was on the mat and asked for someone to fight him , so this guy gets up who happened to be a brown belt in karate , the teacher said to him you know karate and i want you to use what you have learnt there and try and put me down , so of course we are like sitting there eyes on stalks waiting to see what was going to happen next .

20 creds for the rest of the story ??? lol

So the karate guy does all his stuff and races over to him to kick him i guess and the teacher just side stepped , took his leg and helped him on his way to the floor , for the next 15 minutes the karate guy was on the floor more times than he was up and thats really what got me into it .

He did say that he wouldnt diss the guys karate but it was obviously just a demonstration of his ability as an aikido teacher

Yeah well blah blah blah , the end :)

My friend does Karate, but he still can't fight his way out of a plastic bag.

I do karate haven't been doing it for too long but I'm enjoying it :) and with aikido I think temporarily did it for 2 months through school and it mainly focuses on hand holds and stuff like that but imo not overly useful and to defend karate you don't concentrate on putting them on the ground as you do in aikido you concentrate on punching, blocking and kicking which is useful :)

If your looking for alot of blocks and self defense, akido might be a good one, but im not entirely sure as thats not a style I have studyed. Taekwondo (for those wondering it starts for art of the hand and feet), has alot of blocking/self defense, especially in the ATA style forms of Taekwondo.
