I read BFTP's topic on Invision and what not, and seen the section on what to back up for transferring, but I'm guessing that is tranferring an IPB board to another type. All I want to to tranfer a PhP board to IPB, preferrably a free one. I really don't know much about forums, I mean, I know admin stuff, basics, but nothing much else. I was told to help look into conversion for our forums, because we are hitting 2000 members, small compared to this site. I don't really have much credits here, as I'm semi new. But if someone really will only help me for the credits I have, I suppose it wouldn't be a problem to give them out. And is posting the site in here for example or whatever advertising? I don't want to get this closed cause of advertisement while not signed up for it or whatever.

Well what BFTP was talking about was moving an IPB forum to another IPB forum.
I dont know of a way to move from another type of forum. There may be a way. But it seems like it would be hard and take a lot of work and time.
    Sorry man :(

Well right now we are sitting at 2000 members, I'm not main admin or anything, but we were kind of hoping to keep them. I'll just tell you the situation, www.lilpoison.com right now, lil poison is the youngest pro console gamer, signed by mlg. He is going to be on 60 minutes sometime in september, so we are expecting a huge amount of people to join up. And not to mention, just the other day, we had some guy sign up 300-400 usernames within a couple minutes, I'm guessing with scripting or whatever, we have it on user activation, but he still somehow made that many names, and IPB is much safer, so with an increase in ppl we would like a safer forum, and it has a warning setup with no mods. So are you telling me it is not possible at all to transfer posts or members or anything at all to IPB from PHP?

Actually there is a tool that IPS provides so that you can convert a phpBB forum to an IPB. Maybe if you consider buying a license for your IPB you will be able to gain access to those sorts of things.

Ok, thanks guys. We are considering the license, but 70-160, or atleast thats what I was told they cost, is a lot. We will most likely be switching though, so either starting from scratch or getting the license.

You guys are so dumb to switch to IPB from phpbb is easy. If you have a license they provide you with a converter to change your database to one the new one that IPB can use. There are other converters that you can use but they are not the ones that come with IPB, they are not as good or as safe to use as the real ones. But you don't have to start from scratch.

Thanks tgw. Can't you just backup the database, and try to transfer, if it doesn't work, try it again? Seeing as you said it wasn't as safe, I figure you mean you could lose stuff in the process, but once again I don't know much about forums.
