Well besides the processor there are other components which are bound to be different so you cant make a judgement on only one part. If you had posted the specs that would have been easier but without its not possible to do so.

Well after AMD FX there are AMD X2 processors but are more expensive - After that are Opteron processors these are very expensive and are usually server type as it states - The X2 are dual-core ones. Personally i would just go for the AMD64 or the FX series unless you got the funds to get DualCore processors.

Well this was an example one of the sites gave ' If your not going to run 2 application at the same time then you should go for the 64/FX series ' Basically all they saying is that there would be wasted power going into nothing :D

and btw the brands dont matter but as we know it there are really only 2 compettitors in the processor range AMD and Intel. If your going to do gaming go for AMD - more reliable, stable but overheats slightly more than Intel. Intel are good for multimedia stuff - photoshopping etc etc. it just depends what you are trying to do Play games or Do graphics/multimedia

as of right now amd x2 is blowing everything away. intel doesn't really compare , and my past experiences have been that intels get a lot hotter than amd because they run at way higher frequencies.

I recommend you build a computer. What is your price range and I will get you the specs of what you should get.
Dont get the branded pcs as you pay an extra $300 for the name.

you're really not paying an extra 300 dollars for the name. what most people forget to factor in is with a brand computer you're also buying a legal operating system

What the hell are you smoking. It's possible to get a legal operating system. It's called buying it. Windows XP Home is for $90 most places.

AMD is more towards gaming, and the Pentium is more towards business.

but if u build a pc yourself, be sure that everything fits together, cause an AMD 64 FX and a Socket A motherboard dont go together... (just an example) thats the most important point which u have to pay attention to

this part isn't a big deal, if you come up with a price tag either i or soari (i've seen him do it before i hate to speak for him) would probably be glad to hit up newegg.com and spit out the optimum computer part list for that budget, and have it be all compatible
