For what he needs a computer for he should get a mac. They are good for schoolwork and such. If you are a power gamer stick with windows xp.

Ya, I've had way to many problems with my xp... freezes up and its just a pain sometimes... i have a friend who has all macs and loves them, and everyone on this forum that has one seems to like them... so it seems reasonable to get one.

It seems as if you are ignorant when it comes to OS X. My IQ has stayed the same since switching.

I would wait 6 months and get a yonah based processor in your laptop, the G4s and G5s cost a lot and you don't get much, but intel is to be making chips for apple now, so you should be able to get a lot more juice out of your system.
