Does anyone know for sure if having alot of stuff on your desktop lags up opening programs & such ?

It comes about because yesterday I had 136 objects on my desktop, and because Girly was driving me nuts about it...I got it down to 7 after a hours worth of work :P

I don't think it lags your PC when it's all fully loaded.. I certainly find it makes the computer a lot slower when I log on.. but after it's all loaded its fine and dandy

Just go to Start>Run and type msconfig. Go to the StartUp tab and disable everything. Reboot and when the dialog box comes up check the dont show thid again box and click OK. You machine should boot alot faster and not have all the crap load up.

It definitely works that way for me..When I download stuff and they automaticly go to the desktop i find that when I reboot my computer the next time when it loads up it goes much slower so i just delete them off the desktop everyonce and a while.

yes, icons can slow down your computer. I got my desktop down to 4 icons, My computer, Recyle bin, My Docs, and a shortcut to my shared folder.

also, I have all my other icons on my quick launch toolbar that I moved to the top of the screen

I only have my recycle bin on my desktop, so I wouldn't know.

Only the recycle bin? Thats crazy

Thanks for your thoughts & opinions guys, i just wanted to prove Girly wrong :P Windows loaded maybe 30 seconds faster then normal, but that was the only difference i've seen as of yet. I think photoshop opens up faster as well, but since I cleaned out temp files last night, i'm not sure which affected that :P

yes me as well when u dont have icons on the desktop i does go a little faster and i think it also uses up less ram im not to sure about that but i think it does. But there are many other ways to make ur computer faster so that doesent hurt it much as long as u have a some what new computer
