Yo , i have a dell dimension 5000 pc running on windows xp service pack 2. The problem is when i start up i get this error message < C:\windows\system32/hal.dll > And i am unsure on how to fix it Cn someone help? I dont have a XP cd as it was installed on my pc as part of a package Thanks and + creds to anyone that gives me correct and working information I cannot start up my pc :censored: it just comes up that error then restarts so i can disable it or do anything on the desktop
www.lavasoft.com - download ad-ware. And run it. I'm pretty sure its some sort of spyware. or you could try this Run - Msconfig.exe - click on startup, and loook for the Hal.dll file their, and disable it.

Have u tried starting in failsafe mode? Cuz if u can get in there u could try do a systemreset (I think thats the name for it in english)

Well that depends on what notherboard u have. On my screen at startup f12 i think it is to choose in wich mode i wanna startup. If u manage to get in there then its just Start/programs/systemwhatever its called and then system reset to reset to a point where it worked. im not sure if it does but its the best tip i can give when u dont have a windows cd And if i have trouble it usually comes up by itself like the second time i start it over

so you mean to tell me that as soon as the whole windows thing loads up, that messege comes up? and you can't even click start? . man then you're seriously scrwed. but if you CAN access the start, then do this: Start --> Run. Type in msconfig. when the screen comes up, click the BOOT.INI tab. make sure the /SAFEBOOT is checked. then click ok and restart the computer. when you restart, it will ask you if you want to start in safe mode. click enter on your keyboard. or with the arrow keys move up or down to select safe mode. then try and access the internet from there. and download the file that Hydrogen mentioned.

I am giving you a link to get the file that windows is telling you is missing. So if you cant do either, get into safe mode or boot, your only option is to format and start over. Best thing to do, if you can get ahold of an XP disk, is to repair windows. Do that by putting the CD in your drive, booting from the CD< and go through the process like you are going to re-install, but at the time it askes if you want to format or repair, just choose repair, it will look as if it is re-installing from scratch, but its just re-installing the files, your data stays.
my HP came like his. XP already installed. which is pretty gay. all computers should come with their OS disks just in case something happens. like now. ><
