Hydrogen does it again... a link when the person asks for help...

are you installing a forum that needs mysql, or for other means?

I know how to set up mysql for forums, but haven't used it any other way.

That is because most people today are to lazy to do a little research and find answers for themselves.

If the perosn says I have tried this and that and am still at a loss, then I will do what I can to help. But I get tired of all the people coming here to ask where are brushes, can I get some fonts.

Google it first, try to solve your own problems, it will make you a stronger person, then ask for help if you cant figure it out. Dont come out of the shoot asking for help and not trying it first.

I set up my forums by myself. I had help finishing off mod installs, only after I tryed to fix it and find a solution. I at least tried to find a solution to my issues.

So dont assume that because I only posted a link that I dont give help to people, I dont care to help people that dont help themselves.

well, most people who post on here are asking for help, meaning they know little or none about what they are asking for. Just a little explanation would help, or a direct link to what he/she needs, not a link to an enormous website...

Anyway, are you using CPanel at all? If you have Fantastico, you could easily install a forum that will take care of the mysql for you... If not using cpanel, I wouldnt know how...

Don't compare me to those noobs...

i know alot about html just nothing to do with mysql because i've never used it before.. thanks for trying to help though, but if your just gonna post a link then don't bother trying to help

well said, bond1. Mysql is kind of hard until you make your first database, then it's easy from then on.

    You do have CPanel, right?

Here's how to do it on there:

    1. go to the mysql icon in CPanel (looks like a little dolphin and says mysql) and click on it.
    2. you'll see this:
2a. write something for a name (such as ipb, vb, forum, etc.) and press add DB
2b. create a user for the DB and create password to protect your database. i use the same name as the DB, but you can put anything here, it doesnt matter. click add user when done.
2c. heres where you combine your DB and user, use the dropdown and select your stuff you just created. leave it as is, with all privilages on, and click add user to DB, and youre done! Now you have to put that info into your forum's installation when it asks for it.

Hope this helps better than Mr. Linky...

I realize I came off a little wrong with just a link. And I appologise for comparing you to the others who come here and ask for help without looking for themselves. You would be a rare person from what goes on around GR from day to day. Alot of Noobs come here ask for things then leave or try and spam, advertise their invisionfree forums, or sell their warez.

So once again I appologise to you for assuming you were something you are not.I am normally not just a linky type of person. If I give links they are usually more helpfull, but there has been a rash of people here latley that deserve just a random link.

innocent until proven guilty in US courts, please.

for future reference, bond1 and other newb/noobs, say that you tried to look this up on google but found no help, so people like oxygen wont take you for a noob...

    This should help everyone...

I appologised for being a little harsh. Then you go and insult me by purposley calling me by the wrong name. I will let it slide since you have been here for about 10 days, and have yet to see the rash of dumb questions repeated time and time again.
Stick around and you will see what I am talking about. I dont think most of them know how to search or even do things for themselves.

I made a mistake and I will always appologise to the person I did wrong.

So once again bond1 I appologise for assuming something you are not.

Accepted. At least you admit you were wrong. On other forums, they just flare back and forth... It's a neverending battle with them...
