i'm not really haveing trouble insalling the ram the problem is that the new ram has locked up my computer, the computer turns on but i get to the part where windows should load up and ask if i want to log in its just the black a black screen and the cpu seems to stop. so if anyone has had this problem before please help at the mo i can't d/l anything because i'm on my dads laptop.
did you try taking the new ram out? I often had problems where the ram wouldnt allow my computer to go through bios/cmos. What kind of ram are you working with? (ex. sdram, ddr, etc.) what standard of ram do you already have in your mobo, and what type are you installing? (ex. PC64, PC100, PC133, etc.) If the first suggestion, on top, doesnt work, give me more info.
Something is wrong with the new RAM you installed. Sounds like you got the wrong RAM to me. Take the new stuff out and make sure you get the info from the makers website on the type of RAM you need.
^ *knock on wood* Sort of if not exactly what I said above?? yeah, it's a config problem between the 2 sticks of ram... Well, not exactly, but I was running into it when i was asking him about his ram.
go online to the mobo manufacturer site and read the manual about what slots to use. Some have it so if your using 2 sticks to use the 1st and 3rd slots.
yes, but most computers these days come with 2 slots. I'm saying most, not all. Also, your higher mb stick should be in the first slot (normally farthest away from your cpu) and the lower mb's int the second and/or third.
thanks for the help guys, umm i'm useing sdram i only have 2 slots on my mobo, umm i'm not sure what pc--- it is? how do i find out, i don't know the make off my mobo its about 4 years old i'm not sure if my old ram was buffed or unbuffed it doesn't say on the ram.
yes i have tryed everything i have taken the new ram out and put my old ram back in but the problem conintues
Maybe a PSU problem? If this problem is still occuring when you have taken out the new ram then either your PSU is messed up or something isnt connected.
I would think that a PSU would work after replacing the origional ram. what is the wattage of your PSU? If it's below 250 watta, get a 400 watt one.
surely you mean 240 Watts... 240 volts could kill you... look on newegg for a new PSU, one that's at least double what you have now. [edit] umm.. cpu, logan? a cpu wont tell you sh|t about your computer. maybe you meant your motherboard???
