... Well I'm going to apply for univeristy within a month or so. And I need some advice on what I should do. Now. I wanna do something to do with Designing, well as long as its to do with computer and some sort of creation work. Well, I could finish off school next year, and then go to Glasgow Caledonian Univeristy and study Applied Graphics Technology with Multimedia. The course involves industry standard software such as: Freehand, Dreamweaver, Pohotshop, Premier and Flah. Or. I could go to Stow College and study a Computer Games Development course for a year. Then go into Year 2 of the Games Software Development course in Glasgow Caledonian Univeristy. And study that course for 3 years. Now the problem is, to get into the computer games development in college and Univeristy course I NEED Higher Maths. Something which I WON'T be able to attain. However If i get "an appropriate range of SQA NC modules" I will be able to do both courses. However I don't know what they are so I'm left puzzled I was wondering, what you DevArtists recomend/think I should do? And if I do get into the Computer Games Development course what type of software would I need to use? Could someone tell me, so I can like get a head start on the course? All replies are appreciated - thanks, oh and pleaz, Sensible replies >_< I don't want any "JOIN THE NAVY!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Well personally i would do the computer games developmant corse, but i think it would involve using programing languages such as c++ with open gl but i don't know there may be a graphic side involved. I would choose that because everyone is doing gfx now so i don't think it would be that useful. I think the gfx one would be more interesting though as programming is pretty boring. But don't take my opinion as im 14 and don't really know about this University stuff.
I would say go into the gaming industry. Pick up a few courses on [or teach yourself] 3d StudioMax and Maya. There's a huge pull for talented 3d artists in the gaming world. Look at the games that are coming out, and the level of detail they have. A true artist could make some true $$$$$$$
Yeah, I was kinda going towards the gaming side. As it would create more job aspects. Do you know wht ype of programs I would be using to make 3D models? You know, so I can get a head start in designing them
Just like Prod said, you'll need to learn a lot from 3d StudioMax and Maya. If you can get a good hang of those, you'll do ok. ^_^
Here's another suggestion: http://www.cgtalk.com Some of the best and brightest amateur (and professional) CG artists go there so discuss and show off their work. It's like DeviantART, but only for 3D art. Take a look
