How To Make A Gif/jpg Smaller In Size?

i want to know the factors that make a gif/jpg large , in size i mean .. not in height , width etc .. i am making a splash intro image for my site , i need a compress gif/ jpg image .. how i can make it small because it is 200 kb .. thx lots in advance

If you just save it as a gif, it should be a small file size. I think you can fiddle around with the file size more if you do, File<Save for web.

 

Open it in paint and change the size

 

save for web...

reduce the numbers of colors on .gifs also mess around with the coloring mode, you want to get lots of rows of the same color for a smile file size. for .jpgs just push up the compression.
