If this is in the wrong section, feel free to move it, I wasnt sure if it was supposed to go in games or computing. Anyways, I have an error question. I recently dusted off my Diablo II cds. Installed the game and the expansion, their patch and what not. Well when I try to play the game, it refuses to see the fact that the cd is in the drive. Yes its a legit copy, I bought all of it at the store. My computer knows its there, I can browse the cd, auto run the cd, just not play the game. Any suggestions or ideas?
As I stated in my original post, my copy is legit. I went and bought it from Fry's Electronic. It is also able to read the disc as it allowed me to install it, and it will autorun, and I can browse the disc in explorer. Its the exact same drive I used when I played last time, I dont have this problem with any other cd. Just this game, and this time as I didnt have this problem last time. The only difference between before and now, is I was running Win 98 and now I am running Win XP. *edit* Just to be a little bit more specific....the error that I am getting is it keeps telling me to make sure that the expansion cd is in the drive.
maybe you had it ionstalled on 98 then left it on untill you got xp, the files might have been there but you didnt realize it and you mephed it up by trying to install it...... or like me i cant play counter strike , mines a legAl copy to but it wont let me play the game if its the same its your graphics card, i aint got the money to buy a new one. Uninstall and reinstall, if that dont work go onto the official site and see if there is a patch for errors you can download, they have one for most games
Could also be that WinXP doesn't support Diablo II .... When they had Service Pack 2 they sacrificed some compability with games for more security. You should try both the Microsoft site and Blizzard site to see if any of them has a patch to fix your problem.
*edit* Just found a possible fix, will post back for more suggestions if the solution on microsofts site doesnt resolve the issue, otherwise, thanks for the tip to check microsoft.com I totally blanked on checking there. *2nd edit* The possible fix did not work. For those wondering what I tried. Microsoft says that certain programs will not work correctly if I log on a limited user account. They offer a work around that tells you to run the program with different credentials, which I did and I still get the same error, so back to the drawing board. I had completely uninstalled and removed Diablo II before my upgrade to XP. I have been to Blizzards site and frankly, their not much help, they just tell me to update all my drivers and make sure I have no viruses. Well, their up to date as I just recently installed a new motherboard and cpu. I also ran a virus scan and that came up clean. I have also been to various tech sites where they suggest changing the compatibility options on the exe itself, which I have also done and still continue to get the error. I know Diablo II is compatiable with XP because my friend who runs on XP plays it as well. So the o/s not being compatible with the game shouldn't be an issue either. However I will check Microsofts site just to be double sure. Anymore suggestions?
have u been on the blizzard help site? it might help, i dunno if it will tho. and dont play it !!! it becomes addicting, then u start to wonder why your playing it and u relise you have wasted a year of your life   ;(
Well , I don't have XP , but my dad told me something about emulation on XP for older games ... so maybe your friend is using that ... check the Microsoft site for that too while you're at it. PS : i'm not an employee of Microsoft or anything
get a nocd patch for the correct version u have. ver should be in the readme or sumthin in the cd browse space
