i have no idea what overclock is, i keep hearing about "Overclocking" everywhere in computer forums and sites, please explain what it is. also is overclocking improves the performence of your computer? such as more speed in processors, graphic card, motherboard, cooling stuff etc? can you overclock a AMD ahtlon 64 bit 3000+ ?
Alright I'll use PSP as an example, its set as 333 mhz, and is supposed to run at max 333, but to overclock it people set the processor to run at higher speeds than originally intended, like 334 mhz and up. lol, bad example, I don't know much on this subject either.
OC'ing is changing the voltage at which your procesor, video card run at. Which in turn makes the run faster and hotter. You do get some performance increase but you also take the risk of burning up your hardware. The only way to get a noticable difference is if you push them almost to the max, which will need alot of cooling, via water or some people use liquid nitrogen. I dont think it is worth the risk to gain a few 100 mHz or spend some cash to get an extra gHz. want to learn more? http://www.overclockers.com/
its said amd athlon 64 bit 3000 1.8 GHz processor can over clock up to 2.3 Ghz without burning or anything, the max is 2.5 and up
so for risking having to buy a new CPU to gain 500mHz? If you feel it is worth the risk go for it. But it would be easier to go and buy a faster processor.
then how do you overclcok your processor or something? i just wan tto have a little bit of speed like 100 or 200 more mhz
you have to make sure you MoBo has the ability. You would set the voltages in the BIOS. But to take the risk for 100-200 mHz isnt worht the risk and you will not notice any difference.
100 to 200 mhz won't make much of a difference, it'd be pointless. I have the same Processor as you and the current settings it has are fine. You shouldn't need to overclock it, unless you have a extremely crappy mother board =|
there is little risk for upping it 100-200mhz(maybe even 3) wihout extra cooling, any higher though could mess you up. also it isn't just changing the voltage sertting, you have to mess with a base speed and a multiplier, where you messwith the voltage is if your CPU can't run and ti seems to be because it isn't getting enough juice. hope that clears things up just a little.
