this dude is stupid, he should think of the after effect of what hes doin. btw whats the hot coffee mod??
MGStudios and Bungie would be outta work if the government banned games. Its the government, they can do whatever they please. If this continues onto the next stage, especially with what the governments been doing recently and my personal theory relating to a few attacks and such...its kinda out there but it makes sense. Dont ask me about it, but anyways...we just have to be smarter than them, and not complying with them.
Hot Coffee is the name/code name of the mod that was distributed for GTA:SA that allows you to play a sex minigame. It was also the cause for the AO rating that GTA:SA now has until Rockstar releases an edited version (version without this hidden content). And as I posted in the topic regarding the GTA issue, if he gets Sims 2 taken off shelves, his face will be getting to know the ground and the broad side of my baseball bat... The only reason that he is doing this is because he is solely an ANTI-GAME ACTIVIST! If that's not reason enough to piss you off, then I don't wanna know what is...
If he did something very serious I'm pretty sure an angry progamer would get so angry that he would shank his ass.
Why dont you all stop calling him an idoit, like ----, hes a freaking human too ya know. One this if this did pass, it would only affect USA, not other countries like Canada and Europe.
No offense, but you underestimate the American government. With the people in control that are in control now, they can do whatever they damn well please without opposition.
thats true the government in power now can do whatever they damn please but i think the government should worry about much worse problems in society such as drugs, porn, violence, and terrorism not what people do for fun and with a controller
^ yeah and everyone know his name he'll be ----ed for sure and just think how many kids would be doing drugs joining gangs , there would be so much more violence without video games than there are in them and then it would like turn into drugs, drugs are illegal and yet sooo many people do them so i wouldn't give a ---- if they banned video games
I would have to say, if he came after the graphics design community, like GR, I would go all out. I'm gonna have to read up more about this. Even though he's a lawyer, he's not playing the game he thinks he is. All he's doing is trying to prove biased facts. Which means that any of us could beat him at his own game with enough work.
a friend showed me a link to an article he wrote titled worse than hot coffee or something... apparently freedom is only true freedom if it's the cookie cutter christian life style (not that there's anything wrong with christianism...)
I have to agree with you on that one 110% because taking video games away from some of these hardcore gamers would seriously send them into a fit.... drug use amongst teens would sky rocket [/b][/quote] indeed m8 i would say that gaming has held me away from drugs and criminale stuff.
This is long, but it's worth a read, because I explain the legal junk that happened in relation to GTA, and what cannot happen in relation to mod communities. First, all of you saying that the American government is going to pass a law banning videos games have no idea what you are talking about. It has already been established that games are protected under the first amendment of the Constitution. Games are covered under freedom of speech. So, why was GTA: San Andreas pulled? The ESRB rating was changed to Adult's Only (which many would argue is the rating it deserved in the first place). The rating system is the only way that the government can have a hand in the distribution of a game. They can't go to department stores and order them to stop distributing the game, because they would be repressing freedom of speech. So, they do the next best thing. They change the rating to Adults Only, and hope that many stores pull it from their shelves, because of the rating. Now, those of you how are yelling about mod communities being shut down also have no idea what you are talking about. The Hot Coffee did not mod GTA: SA. It was a code that exposed an earlier version of the game that the developers coded over. The scenes that the code revealed were actually coded by the developers who made the game, therefore, the rating change was completely within the rules of the system. Had the makers of Hot Coffee made it, the rating could not have been legal changed, since Rockstar and TakeTwo cannot influence what the mod community does with their game. Besides, the government couldn't shut down the mod community if they wanted to. It is also considered freedom of speech, EXCEPT where it infringes on the copyrights of other companies. (Companies can choose to allow the mod community to use their copyrighted products, though. LucasArts has done it on many occasions.) If they so much as tried to shut it down, many mod makers would haul them into court, and would win, because many cases have already proved that mods are covered under freedom of speech. Even if they happened to find a legal loophole and shut down mod communities, the communities would just become like the music piracy stuff. (Not that I condone it.) People would use p2p networks to distribute the files. Also, many great mods are made outside of the U.S. (Red Orchestra for UT 2004) The government cannot stopthe distribution of those within the states. So, to wrap up, the lawsuit against GTA was founded, becuase what was exposed was created by the developers of the game. The government cannot do anything about the mod community, as long as companies are allow mod makers to use their products as the base of mods.
