Imagine yourself being threatened like that though. Just the thought of being killed would automatically follow the directions of the person threatening you...
if the note was like..."my name, dont make a sound, read this letter silently, I have your family at gunpoint and if you want them back safely than open the register and kindly give the money too me. I have people with me inside the bank, make a sound about this, and your family is dead." that would def make me give him the money.... on the other hand, if all the note said was "give me the money or else..." I would laugh in his face, from behind the bullet proof glass of course.
