Getting towards the time when I'm going to be buying my new laptop for school and I have a dilemma I can't figure out so I figured I'd bring the problem here. I have 3 choices of laptop that I could possibly get (the choices being listed above in the poll).
My whole life I've basically been around PC computers and that's what I'm most familiar with. However, I'm not against going in a different direction and trying out an Apple notebook. That's only been strengthened by the reviews I've read on the Apple iBook and PowerBook which have nothing but good things to say with maybe a couple minor faults. Here are my options with regard to specs and price:

    HP dv1000
    Pentium M Processor 750 - 1.86 GHz
    14" screen
    1GB DDR SDRAM (2x512MB)
    60GB 5400 RPM hard drive
    Extra 6 cell battery
    Price - $1,488.98

    Apple iBook G4
    1.2 GHz PowerPC G4
    12" screen
    768MB DDR266 SDRAM (2x512MB)
    80GB Ultra ATA hard drive
ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 (32MB DDR video memory) GFX card
    Price - $1,274.00

    Apple iBook G4
    1.33 GHz PowerPC G4
    14" screen
    768MB DDR266 SDRAM (2x512MB)
    60GB Ultra ATA hard drive
ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 (32MB DDR video memory) GFX card
    Price - $1,449.00

    Apple PowerBook G4
    1.5 GHz PowerPC G4
    12.1" screen
    768MB DDR266 SDRAM (2x512MB)
60GB Ultra ATA hard drive @ 5400 RPM
NVIDIA GeForce FX GO 5200(64MB DDR video memory) GFX card
    Price - $1,574.00

Those are the options I have to choose from. I am not a big gamer (don't play games like CS, HL2, etc. etc.), I run Photoshop, C4D, stuff like that.
Any help/advice that I can get would be really appreciated. When/if you vote, please tell me which one you voted for and let me know why. Also, please no advice about just custom building my own computer or whatnot because it's cheaper and better. That's not helpful to me because I don't have the resources or time to do that now. I need something that's portable, I can take with me to classes and whatnot. Thanks a lot :)

Yeah, you should look into Toshiba laptops as well. Of the four listed, I'd prefer the HP one; the extra RAM and fast processor will help in intensive programs like Photoshop, C4d, etc. The dedicated video cards in the other ones might be helpful too though...does the HP have onboard video?

    Onboard video?

I looked through most of the Toshiba laptops and they do have some good stuff but in terms of price and whatnot, there might be problems there.

Well since you are not a gamer, I would go for the Powerbook. For your likes "PS, C4D" and such, the Mac would be better in the long run. and a 64 MB video card is plenty for what you want it to do.

a pentium 4 is actually significantly crappier then a G4, even with the added clock speed. Also apples run off of OS/x not windows... as for the ram, there is little difference esspecially since the OS is more efficient...

go for the powerbook, fourth one down...

Hmm, yea right now my current Compaq laptop is running a Pentium 4 processor and it stinks. The thing overheats every time and it's really, really loud

I say get an iBook. If you get a Powerbook you're gonna pay more cash just for a smaller screen and for a bit more speed.

I'd think powerbook is cool, its got style...

But you can get the mac-pc, nearly as mobile as a laptop...

As I stated above, I'm not much of a gamer and Vaio's are more expensive than I can afford
