Help With Metroid Beam

Im currently making a metroid sig i am almost finished but i want to really make a beam coming out of samuses canon. I have a brush that looks nice when i make a beam with it but i cant get it too look they way it should with color and looking like a actual beam. if some one is good at this plz help me! Heres what the sig looks like so far
