I know this topic has been touched on before, such as the effect violent video games has on kids.

But i would like to retouch the subject in a more wide range with movies, life, and other aspects...

In my opinion kids should be exposed to some of the bad things in life early in their life.

I take this example in me, I have 2 older brothers, one 7 years older, and the other 11 years older, so when i was growing up as a kid i was exposed to lots of things, i watched violent movies (The Usual Suspects) i played violent video games a LOT(Perfect Dark, and Goldeneye, GTA's) and I always heard my brothers swear etc....

Now I would describe myself usually as a quiet, shy, nice person that, in fact is kind of a pushover... I am never violent, and have no intentions of killing a cop and picking up a hooker any time soon, I believe that this whole issue depends on the mental stability of any child and their environment.

I consider myself lucky, in terms of my parents, they are very leniant, as long as i keep up my grades (I'm a 4.00 student) and stuff...

I have found tho, that kids with very protective parents can become very troublesome, especially if they are rich, and their parents are very envolved in jobs.

I take this in a kid i know at school. He is kind of rich, and his parents are reallly tough on him and all, but he does have a lot of free time. What does he do with this time? He smokes pot, does stupid ---- around town and more, has been arrested twice...

I just wanted a discussion on the subject i guess, + i'm bored as hell right now...

maybe this whole topic was just a bad idea :P

Video games don't cause violence in kids.
If I'm in such a shape that playing Halo makes me want to shoot people, my mind is twisted beyond anything a video game could cause.

seriously, there was a big story about some kid that was like 16 that played GTA Vice City like constantly. he got arrested and freaked out. He shot like 3 cops and 2 innocents.

They were just sure that it was because of all of the video games. WTF?!?!?!??!
wat about the HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of cop killers that dont play video games.

If i go out and shoot someone because they insult me while im out and about are they gonna say its cuz i played too much Grocery Shopper Xtreme?

Wtf is these peoples problems. If u kill someone because of a game you probably have a hard home or serious mental problems.

EDIT: If you think otherwise i will be glad to debate (also, you are wrong and any point of view you have is void and doesn't matter).

if kids are having problems with violence that is the reason they like violent games/movies and whatnot. not the other way around.

Games don't cause anything. Neither do movies or even, books. Books have violence but no one ever bothers to talk about that. Anyway, if a child decides to shoot up their school after 48 hours of GTA:Sa it's not the games fault. It's one the parents fault for not knowing what their children is capable of, and it's a problem that certain person has. I hate all this critizism on games and movies, for the faults of parents and kids. That's my take on it. :\

Playing Halo, Halo 2, Counter Strike, etc., doesnt make me want to go out and kill people. SO I disagree with this topic.

Well, it can't be the kids cause it could probably be themselves or their lives as in parents, neighborhoods and such...

I live Wahiawa Hawaii. :) Its not that its a bad neighborhood and stuff, but that what usually causes it. Like this one time on the newspaper kid did a sucide because kids in his school teased him about something (forgot) and his mom didn't care. So he went a hunged himself and ya...

    lol
i did a research on this a while ago you would be amazed at the stupidity of the researches that were claiming video games caused violence.

its simple really when a kid ends up becoming violent the parents will blame anything and everything except themselves including videogames movies music etc.

im not sure how many of you heard of the columbine shootings (if you havent go get michael moores bowling for columbine, insanely funny and really deep at the same time), a couple of kids shot up their classmates and teachers, didnt take long for research institutions the media and the parents to make a list of things that caused the tragedy:

1-DOOM II (laughed my ass off on this one)
    2-Marilyn Manson
    3-movies in general

things that DID NOT CAUSE the tragedy:

    1-irresponsible parents
    2-uncaring teachers
3-unstable state if mind of the kids
4-the national rifle association for their incredible efforts to insure semi-automatics are available to children (this one REALLY pisses me off)

    .................................................................
if anyone thinks that this list is bullsh*t plz post a smiley in your posts

    :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

    my 2 cents.

P.S. i used this example cause it really did have an impact in the parent V.S. videogames battle, hope nobody gets offended in any way
