I'm just looking at the AMD 3800+ and just need some help with some stuff. With my 3.2 ghz processor, when I check it's speed through cpu-z, it is only going at 1.6ghz, bios tells me the same (1.6ghz) but if I right click my computer>properties, it tells me the processor is 3.2ghz. Is this the speed which Intel processors really run at? (1/2 what they are called) or is my processor really screwed up for some reason? (drivers?) With my processor, I think it is two 1.6ghz processors, they don't run at the same time very often though. (like 1/10s) My processor - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v181/Boardindan/3.jpg 3800+ - http://photobucket.com/albums/v181/Boardin...t=3800cpu-z.jpg 3400+ - http://photobucket.com/albums/v181/Boardin...urrent=3400.gif Does this mean that the 3400+ and 3800+ are both better than my 3.2ghz? By my limited knowledge, the 3800+ doesn't look too much better than the 3400+, do you really think it would be worth getting the 3800+ when it's like $250 more than the 3400+? Are these benchmarks correct or is it just AMD lying? - http://photobucket.com/albums/v181/Boardin...=benchmarks.jpg Also, is it easy to overclock an AMD processor without killing it? (I have no experience in overclocking )
Thanks for the reply. It's a leptop, I got it from dell, they told me it was a 3.2ghz processor but I am pretty sure it's 2 identical 1.6ghz processors. I am mainly worried about if the 3800+ is better than my current processor.
Yes both amds are better than the pentium, altough its hard to upgrade laptops. I would go with the 3800 (would have a bigger cache).
Sorry for not saying this earlier, I don't plan on upgrading the laptop. (that would require changing the mobo aswell) I am going to buy/make a desktop and just wanted to know if the processor was better than the one I'm using at the moment.
