exactly, and wasn't there a thread about the same thing made by bftp like a week ago. anyhow, same as jashin...I love c4d for abstract. also starting to like it for architectural/tech rendering also. Gotta love bryce too for scenery and awesome wallpapers.
yea, I made a thread bout a month and half ago, and it gets bumped every few weeks by someone, lol. It depends what your tryin' to do: if your lookin' for 3d items to use in animated gifs or what not, Ulead seems to be good. If your looking for professional items for such things as 3d worlds, or makin' realistic items with shadows, try maya3d and 3dmax5)or any newer versions). I can make anything from a grim reaper, to a mustang, to the white house using these programs, and you would be able to make them move(do donuts) or explore these buildings(the white house). I've been workin' with 3d modeling for almost 3 years now, and actually visited and worked at 3d communities such as: http://www.cybertown.com, http://www.oddessey.org, http://www.vrdimension.com, all these sites support 3d modeling software in the forum of blaxxun3d(the 3d plugin) which means you have to save them in the format: .wrl which is VRML, similar to HTML, but 3D. I just wish their were a bigger market for such stuff, or else i would be even richer. I learned about GameRenders from Daz, at VRDimension.com, when i was lookin' to make a banner for my new IPB forum(god i was such a noob, lmao).. BFTP
The best is Maya 6.0, by Alias. It's the industry standard for modeling. Mentalray is the premiere rendering software. Modeling and rendering ARE different things. 3d Studio Max and Cinema 4D are probably tied for third, because second goes to XSI Softimage.
I use a program Called Zbrush2 which is quite easy to get used to, but has a huge amount of features and can be used to create some amazing abstracts / renders check it out at www.pixologic.com
