I downloaded the reputation modification for my IPB board. I'm reading the readme and it says to open index.php. So I did that. Thing is, it opens in a website setting, so I can't edit it. Then it says "Find this [insert crap here] add below: [insert crap here]" I can't edit it, so how can I insert PHP code into the file?

I opened up notepad, loaded the PHP file, edited it, only to find out I couldn't save it in my FTP folder where the file was loaded from. (Error: You cannot save that file in this directory, or something similar).

I'm stuck now. Has anyone installed a modification to someone's/their IPB forum? If so, please help me out here.

    Hopefully this helps:

    1) You want to use Wordpad to edit php files, and when resaving, make sure you add the .php at the end again, or else its just a regular file. You need to save it to the desktop as well, and then upload it to your server, overwriting the old version of index.php

    2) Make sure the one your downloaded is the one for the right version of your board.

Depending on how your accessing your server; you just drag the file into the folder on the server, and it should begin uploading.

Ok, we're making progress. I saved it as index.php, but it saves itself as index.php.txt... Any help on that?

Dont use crappy wordpad to edit files, you will get errors and it saves in the wrong format, get rimson editor (freeware):

I use wordpad for all my editing, and I have made 5,000 credits off it, no messes. Wordpad is the ultimate editing tool, because its small, on every computer, and can handle just bout everything: HTML, VRML, php, java script, etc.

^ Spam. If you don't know, don't reply. Pointless message. And you're new, so I figure you're just trying to get more posts.

Anyway, thanks for the help BFTP. I finally got it working.

If you've got cash, I recommend Dreamweaver.

    Proffesional and good.
