    This is just a wild guess but maybe its to determine at the end, your overall ranking as a driver. Sorta like your approval percentage at the end of Civ games. But I'm probably wrong.

    NFSU OWNS! tuning is the coolest thing in this game.. i really havent try the internet game. :(

    I'am not sure what the driver points are either, maybe something to do at the end? like maybe a new car? who knows
