in your avatar settings -if you just lookdown that millimeter more-
you'll notice the two lil form fields : Width Height

put the actual dimension of you avatar in there
→→ rightclick on your avatar and select Properties to get the dimensions)
then hit submit --strike that--- its "Update Avatar"

now your avatar will show up like it is supposed to

altho, there is a 150x150 maximum!!
if you dont enter the correct dimensions the system will force this 150x150 and distort your avatar.
