have u tried a different font, cause i think some ffonts are just big

 

nope, sometimes the fonts are just huge at 10 px, and other times, they are normal

 

yeh thats my point, some fonts are bigger than others

I'm going with Sphinx on this one.
my bet : the dpi of the stock is too big

if the font is too big even at 6, then it means your resolution is too high.
so if you open an existing jpg that has 150dpi and put on a bitmap text at 6pxs it will be double the size of an image that is at 75dpi.
