I just feel like blowing off some steam...

I've never used tutorials before.. ive always went off what i felt right, and the skills i've used over the years as I learned to use all of Photoshop's features. So many of the Sig's I see these days looks so generic.. like they have been made from watching one of the many tutorials out there floating around the web.Go back to basics.. learn the program.. you don't learn graphics or how to make stuff just by watching someone else make it.

Make it yourself. Who cares if it don't look what like everyone else is making. Graphics is all about finding your own style.. perfecting it.. then merging it and incorporating different techniques into it.

    And remember..
Only make signatures when u 'feel' it. If your heart isn't in it & your not loving making graphics, it's gonna show in your work.
    end rant/

edit: also.. make signatures for people who you know will appreciate it. <3
    edit: ...and have fun! :D

Nice rant, i see some point to it but overall i dont agree. I think tutorials help people learn the tools of the program they use so there not overwhelmed. Alot of people first start learning things with tuts but then they develop there own style, its a continuously evolving way of learning... ;)

Haha, nah its chill. It was just a rant afterall.. well, a point I've been wanting to get people's opinions on. Take my sigs for example.. i mean, i don't use C4D's.. or anything like that, just personally i tend to steer away from anything. It's just not my style.. but then again.. im still not sure what my style is. I just know anything I make usually dosen't look like what everyone else is making.

But.. it's my style.. and I'm happy with it :)

tutorials did make very generic sigs and things but as with anything, practicing other people's techniques and styles were very valuable in learning a lot of neat tools in photoshop in general and the people who stuck with it eventually grew their own styles

I have to agree with on3 I never used a tutorial well maybe once and I liked the outcome and It wasn't a simple one either. I usually go with what I am feeling at the moment. I think if someone wants to learn to do a particular tag I think they should have that option. I also think it is good for people starting out they can learn the basic and other things why using the tutorial how ever I think PSD are the lazy way of showing someone how to learn anything.

It's a 50/50 thing. I love tutorials and especially making them. But it' true that you should do your own thing. But a tutorial can show you new techniques or ideas that you hadn't thought of yet. Just don't simply copy them :D

Anytime anyone mentions sig tutorials, all I can think of is smudging. People that adhere to each exact step of a tut and call that sig their own are what killed sig making, not tuts in general. They're great to pick up on certain techniques to add to your toolbox, people just went too far with them.

:snooty:... Tutorials are just like tracing a piece of work. People having all these free vectors, psd, styles, etc... Makes anyone a designer. A true designer is when others copy or try your style.
