All the forums I used to visit in the past are dead . . . but it looks like GR still has a fair amount of lurkers, and probably the best chance of reviving. Myself I'm gonna try to drop some comments here and there in the art section.
Same here, Ascillor. It's a bit depressing. I even had my own forum that died when Facebook got big. Of course, it was small, anyway, but the userbase it had was consistent for quite a while. Haha.
Interesting comment you make, you think that's where everyone went? They got addicted to facebook and all its apps/games, plus 9gag etc.? And sigs and avatars became obsolete as people moved from forums to facebook groups and pages?
Nah, I think it was more of a fade. People started getting out of it and turned their talents/focus to something else. Not saying everyone did, but the majority has. Also, I was a little to lazy with the forum and that didn't help either.
But it wasn't just a small group of people, and it wasnt just GR; multiple sig communities died out, each with its own member base. For all of it to die, I'ma go with the FB theory.
Thanks to Shaggy the oldie goldie BLzrD is going to rock again Nice to be a part of this community again a bit sad that there's not that much action on the forum lately..but we will change that soon (I hope so)
Might be true, since I also noticed that all GFX forums I was active on, died. However, I'm also into some music forums, and these are definitely not dead!
It's a sociological thing. There are a myriad of factors. I definitely pop in when I can. I should set GR as my homepage again(right now I just have it at google and I seldom restart my browser/computer)
New member here just stopping in, forum seems dead but ill stop in time from time to see if it gets back going. Ive been bored recently decided to dust off my PhotoShop lol Users active in the past 24 hours: 962 (16 members and 946 guests) With those numbers 946 guests it should be possible to get it active again!
yeh but that means we have to pull in as a team and do shed loads of work, e.g. competitions, tutorials, member only downlload, thats the big one, if you put up downlaod for say project files from a tut, and make it so only member can download it then they will be forced to join, this is by far the best way to get new members. But most importantly we all have to just start posting more, be more active, admitadly ive been hiding away the past couple of months but im back
Not only did the old ones die, new ones aren't being made. The number of GFX sites have greatly decreased. It's just something that people don't do anymore. Not sure what happened. Guess it could have just been a fad.
People defiantly still do it, but it has moved to blogs like tumblr, portfolios, actual websites. All the people who were into graphic design when forums were big were around 13 years old. Now that they're older, the ones that are still into actually use it for beneficial purposes. Of course the style has changed though. No one does signatures really anymore, but instead I see facebook cover designs, or flyers. Times just change. I still do graphic design on a consistent basis, but I do miss the forum days. That's forsure.
I am going to agree, Sigs were in the hey-day around 2005 - 2009. Some "say" they got into is in 2002 some got heavy into it in 2011. I have found 2 sites that are rocking with new sigs and activity (meaning it's still alive). Rather then name drop the sites I want to help GR revive. I also want to create a program to SPAWN new sites. What Happened, There are 2 thing I have IDed as the blocks for SIG design: 1. As Sparkss pointed out the age of the designers have changed. When a 24 year old is now married with a job and has a kid on the way at age 30. There must be a changing of the guard. 2. Social Networks: Forums are random people with a common topic. Facebook and Google plus has taken the old social time that use to be focused on forums like this. I have just sent in a provisional Patent to create an echo system for us (Sig forums and SIGskill.com not live). I plan on creating a blog that has the following: sig art, designer name, home forum. There will be no forum, on sigskill.com!!! 2 reasons: 1. conflicting interests 2. SIGskill if sucessful will be all licensed sigs made by amature "known" designers. so I need post control. I patented the printing of SIGs @ 200DPI and using them for Wear. The tray sizes will be 400x130 and also an comic/aname 400x180. I have a key chain made, I'm working on the bracelet. ECHO PART There will be one of a kind exclusive cases within a banner system you can only get though other sites (not SIGskill)... sig sites, like this one. Sales could return up to to 8% of the sale will make it back to the site. A site like this would BANK!!! a tiny new site would be "buoyant". Selling 7 Cases a month would pay the rent. If there are no SIG sites then SIGskill is worthless, so I'll make an effort to back up the forums out there. Kickstarter coming soon. Not only are Sigs relevant, I think we can make them bigger then ever.
