all of these are beyond old, but it's just about all i've got right now seeing as this is my first foray back into graphic arts in a few years. i don't want to continue in this style whatsoever, but cnc on my general photoshop ability and such would be very helpful.

Okay. So I comment this tags in general as you wish. I'd say you got an okay point to start from. You know some basic stuff as smudging, brushing, some gradient layers etc... It is really something you can start with and make great tags.
The overall problem is however that you either do the things too much or too less haha.

Here for example you wanted to add some lighting. Instead of adding one light source there are 3... I cannot even see the render anymore since it is overloaded. There is no real point of focus and what does the guitar in the middle do there?
This is no offense really haha.
You know, everyone started like that. I used to look at the last few layers when I got about 10 new and deleted the ones that made the sig look worse haha. You tend to overedit a little bit.
Just check out some tutorials man and you are on your way. Just dont do them step by step, add another gradient layer, leave one out if it sucks. Add some more new details, work with blur/sharpen, dodge/burn to maintain your focus etc... All those little things not really explained in every tutorial.

    Happy new year mate!

Thanks, dude. I feel like my best bet is to do more LPs and such...tags aren't really a "thing" anymore. Unless I made Facebook cover photos? Hahaha.

I understand the overdoing it thing, but I don't think negative space is all that needed in a 325x125 document either. Flow has always been my problem and finding a happy medium is a good goal for the year.
