Well I use both the polygon lasso and the pen
I prefer the pen if I want a detailed job and a nice clean cut
But if I just need a quick job (thats usually slopy) Ill use the polygon lasso

I like the layer mask and pen tool.
Pen's becoming second nature to me right about now due to all the practice. It's no trouble to use it at all. Plus it's kinda fun.

the Pen is the only way to go. The polygonal lasso is alright, but if you screw up, you gotta start all over again, and the fact that it is always dragging is annoying (can you turn that off? I never bothered to check)

I use both the polygonal lasso and the pen tool. pen tool is much easier/better but the polygonal lasso comes in handy for some small areas that need to be rendered

I just started using the pen tool. I am liking the oputcome better thatn the poly. I hate the fact that I cant move around the render without zooming n and out with the lasso tool. I am still new to the pen tool and hope to e making some premiums soon.

I use the polygonal lasso but instead of just going all the way around with it I just cut little parts out at a time so if I mess up dont have to go very far back

Just click the pen and set it to "Paths" (on the top tool bar after you select the pen, there will be 2 boxes, one with nothing inside and one with a pen inside it, select the one WITH the pen inside it). Trace around the image like you would with the poly lasso (except you dont have to deal with the dragging) and make points all around the render you want to cut. Then it will become a solid line. Right click and hit "Make Selection". Voila, render.
