Well for your tags with renders, instead of just placing them on and making backgrounds as it seems your doing, try blending techniques.

Make renders blend and the borders are just bad. It doesn't go with the sig. Not bad though.

    Thanks for the advice guys.
I know what you mean, and I hope to improve on these a lot more.

So something like duplicate the render, maybe mess with it somewhat, and then mess with the original as well? Or something different?

Not bad. I like your first one (get rid of those borders, its nice enough without them!)

    1. try to blend your render more with your background
    1. Add more depth to it using levels, curves and gradient map

for now, try blending the images

try not adding borders first, improve on the composition itself
avoid bevel and emboss and outer glow on the render and borders if ever :)

I've been busy with school;this one I used a stock for, so I dunno so much about it.
Edit: It's not done yet, because I'd like some feedback on what I can do, and text will come later

Edit2: New one made after the discovery of clipping masks :P

Like the last one, not done, waiting for someone to inspire me or correct me in some way :P

This one was mostly messing around with brushes and more clipping masks, but I hope it's decent.
It's a black border, not a good blend with the forum background.
