There really good for your first time. Welcome to the forum. In my opinion you should really use photoshop though. Im in school as well, college, and i dont have alot of time and money but photoshop will bring out the best in your skills.
I'm a GIMP user as well, been using it for a while. Dont switch to photoshop until you know that this is something you want to do. I'm getting photoshop eventually. The first sig looks great for beginner i like the colors the 2nd one is good too i just think it has a little too much red. The 3rd doesnt blen in well with the background but you're good for having just started. Keep working on it
