If you wanna just try out some stuff, use Photoshop for now. After I got used to vectoring on PS, I switched to Illustrator and although I struggled a bit with the interface and commands, things got a lot easier. Also, exporting vectors from Illustrator to PS as smart objects is amazing.
Vectoring in photoshop I found to be a bit tricky mainly in the quality factor, pen tooling for one is nothing like it is in Illustrator. But if your bound to photoshop, it is a great way to get practice for the potential that you can unlock when using illustrator. There are a few that I used to use, will take a while to find 'em. But I will find 'em!
