Asus generally is priced well and has more or less the best longevity of anything in the market.

thats going to be a bit tougher, you can find a "studio" notebook under a brand and should be able to support your programs

Powerful performance and good battery life for under $500. Link is to the CNET review.

Macs are also are much less prone to getting viruses; which will save you time and frustration in the long run.

Though i also have a PC, but i prefer my mac much more for those reasons and they jus have a better workflow for a graphic/web designer like myself. For gaming though, my PC all the way, just make sure you have anti-virus software installed soon once you get a PC.

It comes down to budget, and before i had the money to get a mac i was on a PC.

Macs are terribly overpriced. You can get the same virus-free, unix-based performance from any free Linux distro (Ubuntu is a popular, easy-to-use one), dual-boot with Windows on a PC and avoid paying Apple's ridiculous price tags while retaining the ability to go back to Windows when necessary.

lol. Mac's aren't exactly over-priced. While they may be more expensive if you directly compare specs, but with a Mac you get a lot of things other laptops don't. Unparalleled build quality (no other laptop has anything that compares in quality to the MBP unibody), an excellent 8bit TFT screen (which for graphic design or just pure viewing pleasure, is amazing), plus excellent speakers, and the Multi-touch Pad (which once you get the hang of is an enormous improvement over typical touch-pads).

Also Macs can run Windows as well as Windows PCs, and Linux, and OSX. They're the only laptops that natively run all three, and OSX is enormously better than Linux.

I'd love to hear your reasons for it being 'enormously' better than Linux. Maybe Ubuntu specifically, but that's only recommended for Linux newbies anyway.
Also, excellent speakers? In their laptops? I've heard those speakers; your definition of excellent must be completely different from mine. Maybe by laptop-speaker-standards, but they're all terrible anyway.
