I'd still go for a 5850. Better to buy a slower card more frequently. besides, what resolution are you gaming at and what games do you play?
Modern Warfare 2, Assassins Creed 2, Need For Speed : Shift, CS, L4D2, Bioshock 2, Mass Effect, etc... @ 1920 x 1080 (planning on installing dual monitors, perhaps attach it to my 42" LCD TV) 5850, why?
compare the 5870 to the 5850 5-10% more performance for a 30% price increase they both have the same memory the same cooler the big difference is that the 5870 has 10% more processing units, BUT the architecture only really scales well at insanely high resolutions.
This man speaks the truth. A truly Zen computer master knows its all in getting the best performance:dollar ratio.
Ahan! WOW Zelink, you really are the boss around this corner and I love you for your wise opinions. And the the 5850 can be overclocked to give performance similar to the 5970 stock?
the 5850 cannot give you 5970 stock performance. that said, you can later buy another 5850 and put them in crossfire for 5970 level performance if there is a need for performance. an OCed 5850 will come very close to 5870 performance though. VERY close.
Yes. As i said earlier, a 5970 is basically just a crossfire of two 5870's. And yes, the card that gives the best bang for your buck right now is the 5850. Here is a complete list of specs, comparing all 3 ATI cards mentioned. http://cache.techie-buzz.com/images/gadgets/ATiHD5970TheFastestSingleGraphicsCardOnT_1340B/5970_slide0_thumb.jpg
Sorry I mistyped, I meant to say the stock performance of 5870 not 5970. But thanks for the compairson and stuff, I spoke to a friend of mine today who is buying the 5970 and he said that I could then buy this 5870 for about $245.. Is it a good deal mates? The card still has warranty on it and was bought roughly around 4 months ago.
Thats a great deal for 5870 man. 5870 go roughly from 400-450. i would buy it if is in a good condition, if not send it for it warranty l0lz
It actually is in good condition since it was bought for his first built, he went crazy on everything expensive and top of the range at that time. And he takes real good care of his PC since it's his first, so yea I'm not worried about it. I am going to get it =D
