Summer, 2011: I'm Buying A New Computer

So here are my current specs:

AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+
2.0 GB DDR2 RAM (Don't ask me what kind, I don't know)
GeForce 8800 GTS

Um... also running XP.

I've had this computer since 2007.

So for $2000.00 or less, what do you think I'll be able to get by then?

You can buy a quantum computer that can process extraordinary amount of data, and do unfathomable amounts of complex calculations in a fraction of a second. It will have nuclear weaponry available as an optional add-on, and be able to fluently speak Portugese. Olá. It will contain details of the known universe, and details of the unknown universe, and both will be indistinguishable. Xlink will concur.

2011? Yea, a CPU, gpu and 2 sticks of ddr3 rams. Unless ofcourse the recession doesn't hit again

I don't know the rest of my specs. It's been since 2007.

 

Just upgrade your ram to 4gigs and install Windows 7 (64bit). Your graphics card should last you another year or so. Unless you want to run Crysis on High or some other heavy graphics game. A lot of graphics cards have long/unlimited warranties so if it ever dies you can RMA it and get a brand new card. I had a 7800 GTX and sent it to Evga for RMA, got a 9600 GTX in return for free. Your CPU is fine as well. I have an old X2 4800+, 2gb of RAM, Geforce 9600 GTX 512mb. I can run Dragon Age Origins on high settings with very little latency.

 

Unless you have 6gig or more don't bother with 64bit windows, because the 32bit requires less kicking and thrashing to get older software and games running on it (something that is important for me).

its a misguided myth that 32bit OS's cant address 4gig of RAM.

 

They can't. At least, I've witnessed it on Windows XP and Vista Ultimate, haven't tried on Windows 7 since I've been on 64-bit for almost 5 months now.

32Bit OS's can address the amount of RAM, but they can't perform to the fullest. 64-bit OS's utilize the memory better.

 

Wrong again. 32bit can fully utilize all 4gig. The only thing it cant utilize fully is the 64bit architecture of a CPU.

Well, if you're running 64bit Windows you must have.

 

6 and 8 core CPU's will be the newest thing out by 2011. 6 core cpu's will be out this year by Intel the i9 series (already server 6 core cpu out but its over $2000+ lol) not exactly sure when the 8 core cpu's will be out. I would like to upgrade my 920 for one of the 6 core cpu's but I think the cheapest one starts at $500+ range. Hopefully SSD drives will come down in price and go up in size by 2011 where they are more affordable
