Ok, a while ago i made a thread about my internet being slow etc.. and it was the router to blaim.. when i resetted the old router it worked fine again for a while and than my internet would go slow again.. so i thought the router was broken..

now we got a new modem + router and everything worked fine in the beginning. untill a week ago, everytime i booted my pc it wouldnt download with my full speed. but just like 20-25% off it. when i reset the router it works fine again :S

any ideas on this what the cause could be?

Does the modem have wireless? If so, is it unsecured? Could someone be stealing you internets?

It does sound like someone is leeching off your connection. The first thing I would do is remove public broadcasting of the SSID, that way only the people that you tell can access the network. Next thing would be to change the default username/password of the router if you haven't done so already. You might even want to setup mac address filtering, and a WEP key. This will provide [triple] preventive measures to ensure that no one else is easily using your connection at least.

Next thing I'd do is also make sure you don't have anyone in your house using any sort of torrent program, and if they are, make sure they aren't sharing anything. It sounds like that whoever is using your bandwidth doesn't automatically reconnect to the network, or that the program they are using doesn't automatically boot up again which is why you see no bandwidth lost when you immediately restart power to your router.

If you have trouble doing any of the above, feel free to post and we can assist you. We'll need to know the router brand and type though in order to be able to properly walk you through this.

Well, change those things, and let us know if the problem persist. If it does, it's probably someone on your network. If it isn't, we can come up with a few more solutions.
