Hey all, Just thought i'd make a topic try to get some discussion going to get to know the fellow posters here. So where do your work at or what do you do for work if your self employed? I work for a company called Orion, here is what the company website says about Orion: Orion History "Orion was established in 1957 by a group of parents of children with disabilities. Their vision began in the basement of a church and their goal was to offer training which would provide technical skills for their children as they graduated from high school and entered the workforce. Their vision was accomplished with the creation of a self-sustaining machine shop that provided their children with skills and produced competitive, marketable manufacturing services. The machine shop evolved over time into a world-class ISO-9001:2000 & AS9100 certified precision manufacturing facility serving the aerospace, defense, medical and marine industries. Orion has continued to expand their mission and their enterprise, most recently entering the Tele-Services industry through their Customer Relations Service & Training Center." Orion is a Non-profit organization that uses there machine shop to train people with disabilities and get them out into the workforce, and more recently there call center which is where I work. Pretty much I got this job when they first opened the call center it suppose to be a "Multi-Purpose" call center but at the moment we have a contract with the Washington State Patrol Troopers Association. We make out-bound calls to people and collect donations for the Troopers. In a nutshell I telemarket/solicite funds and I get yelled/cussed out all day as I sit in front of this computer talking to people who would rather get there teeth pulled out with no pain meds then talk to me. Incase you haven't heard America is in a economic recession with a unemployment rate almost as high percentage wise as it was in The Great Depression (just 2% short of it last time i checked) I pretty much hate my job, And everyone I call pretty much hates me and isn't afraid to let me hear exactly how much they didn't want me to call them.
Except in the states the welfare system isn't anywhere near as good. Atm I'm getting close to $200 a week on unemployment, and its soon going to be $210pw.
I'm an Office Junior for an Architect. (Do banking, answer phones, mailing, run messages etc. etc... pretty much office bitch)
No way I could survive on $800 or even $840 a month just dont have that kind of budgeting skills. So are you working your way up through the ranks or is it a dead end type of job? if your studying to be a architect you can make some big bucks doing that kind of work.
I go to college. And my parents don't want me to get a job for that reason. I'll probably get one next semester anyways though.
